Maureen Connolly also won a calendar year Grand Slam, in 1953. She was the first woman to do so.
'Little Mo' won every Grand Slam tournament she ever entered, from the US Open in 1951 (aged 16) to Wimbledon 1954 – a total of nine. (She didn't play in the 1954 Australian Open.) Two weeks after Wimbledon in 1954, she suffered a riding accident that ended her career (aged 19).
